“The great enemy of truth is very often not the lie–deliberate, contrived and dishonest–but the myth–persistent, persuasive and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the cliches of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations.
We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
~John F. Kennedy [Commencement Address at Yale University, June 11 1962]
How much of what you believe is your original thought? We are instructed by our parents and our society from the moment we are born, and often spend a lifetime untangling the knot. Our prejudice and bias frequently trumps logic, and worse, it often prevails over morality as well. If this is true of ethics it’s more so of religion. It is much easier to keep our spiritual umbilical cords attached to someone else, but God did not create us to be afraid of the truth, which is never threatened by investigation. Push hard on it, and it will never topple over. Shine a light on it and it only glows brighter.
God wants you to know the truth. You have His word.
You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
