I pray to God within me that He will give me the strength to ask Him the right questions.
~Elie Wiesel, from Night
Many people don’t know that “Holocaust” comes from the Greek words “holos” (whole) and “kaustos” (burned), and was historically used to describe a sacrificial offering burned on an altar. Hitler called the elimination of the Jews the “Final Solution” as they were blamed for all of Germany’s ills, and between 6-8 million people were murdered in this unfathomable campaign of terror.
People see evil in the world and say “How can God exist?” It’s the wrong question. Better would be “How can we exist?”. Sin and death were introduced into the perfect world by man when we said “No” to God and “Yes” to a rebellious heart. We opened the door and invited Satan in. Don’t blame Adam and Eve for that. We do it every day.
It is a miracle that any of us can live with a destroyer in the house.
The true Final Solution is the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Yes, our world is broken but it is not the last chapter. Jesus said “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Only God knows how often we are saved from evil every day by His hand of protection. Jesus taught us to pray “Deliver us from evil” just as much as “Give us this day our daily bread”. Through Christ, delivery from evil is possible today, but assured for eternity.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
