A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel

imageThis book will be interesting as a skim to all lovers of reading, and might be valuable as a reference work for historians and language wonks (the author’s scholarship is impressive). That said, don’t pick this up expecting to be entertained on a sustainable basis. The prose is occasionally inspired and at times, even soaring, but tedium rules the day.

On the whole – disappointing.
